In the Bible, in James 5:14 we read: “Is any one of you sick? Call the elders of the church to pray over you and anoint you with oil in the name of the Lord.” But what if there isn’t someone and you can’t call anyone? If you’re too weak to move and have no breath to speak?

At the end of October 2024, I developed a very severe chest infection and was very unwell for several weeks; it took several months before I was really well again. I would cough non-stop during the day and at night.

I couldn’t lie down so I would have to sit propped upright in bed. Many nights I just sat in an armchair all night. One night I was in bed coughing so badly with no space in between coughs to get a breath. My breath was going out with each cough, and no air was coming in – not a healthy situation! I remember being on the floor and all I could do was pray “Jesus please help me”. Instantly the coughing stopped and I started to breathe again!

It’s true that Jesus didn’t heal the whole infection there and then – that took several months, several lots of antibiotics, and several visits to doctors. But, that night, Jesus met with me in my hour of need and He did what was needed!
