“As I was driving, Jesus gave me calmness instead of anxiety”
Posted: August 14, 2025

On occasions throughout the year, I visit my youngest brother who lives in the Midlands. I live in Wiltshire and for me the easiest route is picking up the M4 at Chippenham and then nearing the Bristol interchange travel onto the M5. My route from then on is straightforward. But unfortunately, I always begin to feel extremely fearful and anxious as soon as I start approaching the interchange. During road works lanes have decreased and then increased which has all added to my anxiety. I know that if I do not get in the correct lane then I am on my way to Wales!

This particular journey was on Easter Sunday 2025, and I decided to go to our church service in the morning and then leave for my journey straight afterwards. In conversation before the service, I spoke about my concerns and was reassured that all would be well. In our service we always have “A time for God”, when we wait upon the Lord to hear what He has to say to us through the power of the Holy Spirit. It was during this time that a word was spoken which said three times, “Jesus is with you”. Knowing my journey ahead I thought that was comforting.

After the service, as I was about to leave, our Pastor spoke with me and asked if he could pray with me as he felt the words given were for me. He prayed about my journey and I left feeling more confident. My journey began, and as I was approaching the start of the interchange, I could see the traffic building up. But instead of my usual anxiety and worry, I felt a calmness and the car eased into the lane which was the exact one for me to be in position for when the road split for the changeover. As I drove over the slipway onto the approaching M5 I was elated that prayer had been answered and thanked God for His goodness.
